Love Letter

It is hard to explain why anyone would insist on writing a blog year in, year out, let alone this one.

I can’t even explain it to myself. It simply starts getting late in the day and I sit down and do it. “I feels me a blog comin’ on,” or something like that.

But every once in a while I get a glimpse at what really motivates me, and it’s always through the eyes of someone else. In the mail a couple of days ago I got a check for $50, which is a lot, and which means a lot. But the letter? That was the real payday.

“Dear Seth,

“Yet another year has passed & your blog is still showing up in my inbox a few times a week & your blog is still a major source of news & entertainment.

“Due to my continued disdain for PayPal, I’m sending another old-fashioned check.

“Please continue your blog as you have been for many years now. It makes a difference in the lives of so many people.

“I look forward to racing with you in a leaky-prostate race in the coming month.”

    1. Thanks for your unwavering support despite significant disagreement on a lot of things. I try to tell people that a free press doesn’t mean lockstep, that you can disagree and still run in the same race, but these days, nope, that’s a non-starter. All or nuffin’. Thanks again.

    1. Hahaha! If someone could show what I’m gonna learn in year 35 that I didn’t learn in years 1-34, I’d be in!!!!

    But I do.

  2. Wanker: Give us a bit more personal stuff on your ~40 years of bike racing – for example why have you stuck solely to rr all these years – and perhaps give us your thoughts on all-around talents like van der poel – everybody is tired of the POW lookalike riders these days that win the grand tours. Until then, you’ll get nothing but the 250 cents/month via paypal. Honestly though, much appreciation/admiration for the fact you deliver every, single, day.

  3. I have to say, you were my replacement Tilford blog for a while but I have grown to appreciate your insights and perspectives and your blog stands on its own. Thanks for doing what you do and keep traveling and writing about your craziness. Maybe take a real coat on your next wintertime trip.
